Unit 2- Photoshop (Design)
|
Photoshop is professional DIGITAL IMAGE EDITING software
It is based on manipulating PIXELS like MS Paint, although it does have some vector based tools like FLASH |
Low- Poly (Assignment 1)
Low poly Design was a technique originally used for making 3D models and scenes for videogames, due to its render speed, which was achieved thanks to low polygonal resolution. We will be exploring this technique by using portrait images and turning them into amzinging design creations!
Step 1- For the first part of this assignment you will choose and image you would like to work with either a personal portrait, animal, or cartoon charater. **IF USING IMAGE FROM INTERNET PLEASE ASSURE IT IS A LARGE SIZE IMAGE/RESOLUTION. Step 2- We will be using both Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop for this assigmnet. Please take you time in reviewing the following tutorials and links below before you get started. http://connecting4.com/how-to-adobe-illustrator-geometric-art/ http://www.onextrapixel.com/2014/02/21/polygon-graphics-what-they-are-examples-and-tutorials/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR4DPfgNhs8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9vpatthAgA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7XTn72N1zk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSAGUhzA-90 |

Silhouette Sunset (Assignment 4)
This activity is a good introduction to photoshop tools. They create a gradient background and then use shapes to create silhouettes. Silhouettes are a useful tool for assessing if a cartoon or illustration reads clearly and is a fantastic way of giving students confidence to draw. An extension of this activity is combining it with a class activity where all the students print out their landscapes and present them as a long freeze or use Tangram shapes. This is a good opportunity to look at Chinese art, geometry in traditional and decorative art. As this is a landscape there is an opportunity to explore the 'rule of thirds' and composition.

Creating Glowing Light Effects Using Shapes and Lighting (Assignment 5)
Students will learn how to use Photoshop Tools to creatively design a glowing light and shape dynamic design using a single image or multiple themed images within a Photoshop Canvas Size of your choice. This can be project based as a promotional poster, artistic design, lighting collage etc. Shapes can be designed specifically to the concept students choose. This is typically a basic photoshop assignment to teach tools but can be considered advanced if more complex expectations are given (ie) mixed media design style projects.
